People in the Körber Business Area Technologies

Marco Rethorn, Customer Service Technician

"After training as an electrical fitter, I travelled the world as a non-commissioned officer in the German Navy for four years. After that, I knew there was one thing I didn’t want – an office job. So when Körber had a vacancy for a technician for assignment worldwide, I applied immediately. I am currently a customer service technician in the areas of logistics and electronics. I am based in Bergedorf, Hamburg, but I am away on field assignments 15 to 20 times a year, sometimes only for a day, and sometimes for weeks. There are always new challenges that require individual, and sometimes creative, solutions. Even after more than 20 years in the job, I still enjoy getting to know new countries, people and cultures."

Kyoko Sawanobori, Accountant

"After studying accounting in Japan, I worked as an accountant for several American and German companies. I currently work for Körber’s Tokyo site. I am responsible for the site’s entire accounting. I also assist the Management on issues related to controlling.
In addition to my colleagues on site, I have many other contacts: suppliers, customers, banks – and the headquarters in Germany. Due to the time difference, I arrange my work so that I do all the local work in the morning so that I can be in contact with headquarters in the afternoon."

Thomas Pehlgrim, Electrical Design Engineer

"My professional career was already predetermined as a child: from an early age, I would tinker with faulty devices until they worked again. I did an apprenticeship as an electrician first and then added a qualification as a state-certified technician later on.
I now design electrical hardware, i.e. switch cabinets for our machines, at the Schwarzenbek site near Hamburg. I use 2D software to produce the circuit diagrams and 3D software to visualize the integration of the switch cabinets into the machine. Once the design is complete, I supervise the assembly of the prototype and support our technical writers in producing the manuals."

Tomo Kevala, Software Developer

"After graduating from high school, I completed an apprenticeship as an energy electronics technician specializing in plant engineering and then a degree in electrical engineering.
I currently work in Bergedorf near Hamburg. There, I develop, test and document the control software for the Primary equipment that supplies our cigarette makers with high-quality cut tobacco. I also assist my colleagues who create or update the documentation for the equipment. And quality assurance is particularly important. Prior to delivery, my team and I carefully inspect the functionality of every piece of equipment."

Bastian Wolff, Mechanical Design Engineer

"I have been working in special machine construction since I graduated in mechanical engineering in 2002. I am responsible for a wide range of technical and organizational matters in Hamburg. These include working on special customer enquiries, analyzing problems in the event of faults, supervising the design process and introducing new developments into the machine. When I know the customer’s needs, I prepare a suitable offer containing individual solution proposals, a cost estimation and specific schedule planning. Experience and risk awareness play an important part in this."

Jean Klele, Human Resources Manager

"After completing a bachelor's degree in Psychology and a master's degree in Human Resources, I first worked in the Human Resources department of a paper company. As Human Resources Manager here at our US location in Richmond, Virginia, I am responsible for all aspects of human resources. I'm as thrilled by the diversity of my job as I was on my first day. I deal with all sorts of issues: from staffing, immigration and further training courses to managing the personnel evaluation system – and even compliance with internal practices and guidelines. Negotiations with insurance companies regarding social benefits for our employees are also exciting. All this requires not only expertise and diplomatic skills, but the willingness to learn constantly."

Internship, Apprenticeship, Dual study programme: We offer many paths to the job of your dreams

The purpose of an apprenticeship is more than just the qualification you obtain at the end. Those who make the most of an apprenticeship benefit from it their entire lives, because it gives them expertise and skills that are applicable in a wide variety of jobs and with a wide variety of employers.
But we aspire to achieve even more than that. We want our apprentices to learn something that goes beyond the vocational aspect: self-confidence, teamwork, commitment and determination.
Whichever apprenticeship path you choose, we can help you reach your career goals.
